Adobe's Firefly generative AI video app is now in public beta

Engadget

Adobe's Firefly Video Model is in public beta as of today, meaning the days of praying you had a chance to test it are over. Previously, it was only available in the Adobe Premiere Pro video editor with Generative Extend, but you can also access a standalone Firefly web app now. For those unaware, Adobe's Firefly Video Model powers the Generate Video feature, which can generate video clips from a text prompt or image. It can also edit images, turn them into videos, create 3D worlds and more. The content is "safe" for commercial use too, since the AI applies watermarks signifying which parts have AI assistance, and that can be checked with the Adobe Content Authenticity web app's Inspect tool.

The iOS 18.1 public beta is here, bringing Apple Intelligence (almost) to the masses

Engadget

The iOS 18.1 public beta is here, bringing Apple Intelligence (almost) to the masses You can try some of the AI features today if you have an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max. Apple Intelligence is edging closer to being ready for primetime. Apple has released the public beta of iOS 18.1, which includes some of the major generative AI features that the company has been talking up over the last few months. We'll have to wait a few more weeks for the public versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 18.1 to bring Apple Intelligence features to everyone with a compatible device. The public betas should be more stable and less risky to install than the developer betas, but it's still definitely worth backing up your data to your computer and/or iCloud before putting this build of iOS 18.1 on your iPhone.

Sony's 'GT Sophy' racing AI is taking all Gran Turismo 7 challengers

Engadget

Nearly two years after its prototype debut and eight months after its public beta, Sony's GT Sophy racing AI for Gran Turismo 7 is back, and going by Gran Turismo Sophy 2.0 now. It will be available to all PlayStation 5 users as part of the GT7 Spec II Update (Patch Update 1.40) being released on Wednesday, November 2 at 2 a.m. We got our first look at the Sophy system back in February 2022. At that point it was already handily beating professional Gran Turismo players. "Gran Turismo Sophy is a significant development in AI whose purpose is not simply to be better than human players, but to offer players a stimulating opponent that can accelerate and elevate the players' techniques and creativity to the next level," Sony AI CEO, Hiroaki Kitano, said at the time.

WWDC 2023: Vision Pro, iOS 17 and everything else Apple announced today

Engadget

To say that Apple's WWDC 2023 keynote was packed would be an understatement. The company introduced the Vision Pro, its first foray into mixed reality headsets, as well as a 15-inch MacBook Air. There was also an updated Mac Studio and Mac Pro, both of which use the equally new M2 Ultra chip. As you'd expect Apple announced significant upgrades to all its software platforms. It's safe to say the Vision Pro was Apple's marquee device at WWDC.

The Morning After: Previewing macOS Ventura

Engadget

Apple is trying to reshape the way people work on Macs. Stage Manager in macOS Ventura might seem like a quick visual way to swap between your recently used applications, but according to Devindra Hardawar, who's been testing the first Ventura public beta over the past week, Apple may have solved the window management issues that have plagued Macs since OS X. I'm particularly intrigued by Stage Manager's ability to group apps together and, crucially, remember exactly where you position your windows. I'm sure Windows users are rolling their eyes as they read this. And if you're intrigued, Apple's iOS 16, macOS Ventura and watchOS 9 public betas are ready to download.

How to install the iOS 15.4 public beta

#artificialintelligence

There have been some exciting features announced for the next version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 15.4, including the ability to use Face ID with a mask and to access some snazzy new emoji. If you can't wait, you can test them in the first available public beta right now -- assuming you're willing to risk encountering possible bugs. Here, we walk you through the steps for installing the software. Before we get started, here's the usual word of warning about installing unfinished beta software: these releases may seem stable for general use, but they could contain some bugs. Your experience may differ from others, depending on the apps you use.

Elon Musk says 'issues' have forced Tesla to pull its latest full self-driving beta

Engadget

Tesla's latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta software 10.3 has been pulled shortly after it was released, with CEO Elon Musk citing "some issues" in a tweet, TechCrunch has reported. Musk said one such issue is "regression" with left turns, while testers have posted about phantom forward collision warnings, autosteer bugs and more. The FSD has supposedly been reverted to version 10.2, but some users said they no longer have access to FSD at all, according to The Verge. Please note, this is to be expected with beta software. It is impossible to test all hardware configs in all conditions with internal QA, hence public beta.

Google launches Recommendations AI ecommerce tool in public beta

#artificialintelligence

During its Cloud Next 2019 conference, Google unveiled Recommendations AI, a fully managed service designed to help retail-oriented businesses deliver personalized product recommendations to their customers. Beginning today, following a lengthy preview period with early adopters that include Sephora, Boozt, and Digitec Galaxus, Recommendations AI is available in beta to eligible Google Cloud customers. Google says Recommendations AI was informed by work across properties like Google Ads, Google Search, and YouTube. Using machine learning to dynamically adapt to customer behavior and changes in variables like assortment, pricing, and special offers, it ostensibly boosts click-through rates and conversions on web, mobile, and email while increasing the revenue driven by recommendations and total revenue per visit. Thanks to "context hungry" deep learning models developed in partnership with Google Brain and Google Research, it's able to draw insights across tens of millions of items and constantly iterate on those insights in a real-time way.
